April taught me the importance of giving to others. April believed so strongly in helping others that she continually looked for ways to help others.
Early in our relationship, I was reminded by April how important it is to help others. A couple of girl scouts knocked on my door as they were trying to sell their girl scout cookies. After they left, April asked who was at the door. I told her that it was a couple of girl scouts selling cookies. April was excited to hear that and asked what kind of cookies I bought from them.
I told April that I didn’t buy cookies from them because we had recently purchased cookies from the store, and we didn’t need any more. April got upset and told me, it’s not about you, Pat, and whether you need cookies or not. This is their fundraiser and you should be happy to help them out. Now, go find those girl scouts and buy some of their cookies.
It is always a bit concerning when a grown man is seen running down the neighborhood street in pursuit of a couple of girl scouts. But, after the girl scouts got over their initial fears after I caught up with them, they made out with quite a large sale of cookies to me that day.
April taught me the importance of giving to others, often, and from the heart.
